Difficulty using Streamer

Postby MickeyMo » April 12th, 2012, 2:17 pm

Whilst browsing the iTunes store I came across the VLC Streamer app. What a great idea! I decided to download the free version to see if it worked first but I'm having difficulty. The app on my iPad sees my PC but when I go to watch something it keeps saying that 'VLC couldn't process the movie'. I tried it with the recommended 'Building on the Past' video but still the same problem. Every time I click 'Watch' on the iPad, an error box appears on my iPad saying 'VLC Media Player just crashed. Do you want to send a bug report to the developers team?'.

Is there something glaringly obvious I'm missing such as you can't watch movies with the free version :D

I intend to bur the full version if I can be sure it will work.

Grateful for any pointers. Thanks.

it's almost certainly not your fault. We had a bug with the 2.22 version of the helper causing it to crash on windows.

please update the helper and (hopefully) all will be well.

Hello. I have used VLC Streamer in a previous version (I don't recall the working version number) and converted a few movies and all worked perfectly. I enjoyed it so much I purchased the app from the AppStore for my iPad and iPhone.

Now I have upgraded to VLC Streamer Helper version 2.52, then 2.54, and continue having the same issue reported by the user above. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the helper, also removing the VLC Streamer app from my iPad and re-installing - no luck. The VLC Streamer app will pull up previously converted movies, but it won't convert new movies I'm trying to add from either the iPad or from the PC. I always get the message "vlc couldn't process this movie" every time. I tried converting the suggested movie "Building on the Past" and get the same error. I've tried the command line instructions and still no luck.

Any help here would be great appreciated!

HI Doug, probably best to email me
rob at hobbyistsoftware.com

let me know exactly what you have tried.

if you tried the command line to convert a movie, then let me know what output you got.

also,
can you try the 'known movie' from here:
http://wiki.hobbyistsoftware.com/wiki/Vlcstreamer_debugging#Try_a_known_movie

that will clarify whether the issue is the specific movie(s), or a more general problem.

cheers,
